BICYCLE STORAGE

All residents must register their bicycles with Transportation and Parking Services. Registered bicycles must be stored in either a bike rack or individual’s rooms. Bicycles may not be locked or stored in hallways, stairwells, or poles.  Improperly stored or unregistered bicycles may be impounded. Any bike causing a safety hazard will be removed immediately.

Non-motorized bicycles should be stored in bicycle storage racks located throughout Bannockburn Village & Plaza.

Motorized and non-motorized bikes may not be parked on patios, decks, or landings (except for non-motorized bikes on private, enclosed patios at The Plaza), nor may they be parked on stairs, walkways, or other common areas throughout Bannockburn Village & Plaza. Bicycles found in these areas are subject to removal, as well as storage fees.

You can help protect your bike from theft by (1) purchasing and consistently using a quality lock & cable (do not use a Kryptonite lock) and (2) borrowing an engraver from the Resident Services Office (see "Equipment Check-out") and marking your bike with some kind of identification.

Abandoned bicycles will be tagged with a 30-Day Notice. If the Resident Services Office does not receive a response from the owner, the bike will be confiscated and sent to the appropriate authority to be auctioned.

CASH VALUE CENTER

A Cash Value Center machine is located in the Bannockburn Village Mailroom---open 24 hours---that enables you to add cash value to your UCR Card. Your UCR Card can be used in Bannockburn Village & Plaza laundry rooms (see "Laundry Facilities") as well as in vending or copy machines, convenience stores, the UCR Commons, and UCR Bookstore on campus.

Additional Cash Value Centers are located at A-I, Lothian, and Pentland Hills Residence Halls, as well as at the UCR Commons, the UCR Bookstore, and the Campus Store.

COMPUTER & STUDY FACILITIES

BANNOCKBURN VILLAGE (24 Hours):

The Computer Lab is located near the Loading Dock. The lab is equipped with IBM-compatible computers, a laser printer, a bulletin board and white board (Dry Erase markers can by checked out at the Resident Services Office, see "Equipment Check-out"). Lab computers are directly linked to the UCR Campus network and achieve some of the fastest Internet speeds available.

The Study Room is located on the east end of T building behind the Bannockburn Village pool. This area is ideal for study groups or individual studying. T100A can be reserved between the hours of 8am and 10pm. T100B is a 24 hr. quiet study area.

THE PLAZA (24 Hours):

The Plaza Computer/Study Lab is located in the first floor C1 outside of The Plaza pool area. The lab is equipped with IBM-compatible computers, a laser printer, bulletin boards, and various desk accessories. The lab’s computers achieve highspeed Internet access via DSL service.  Located on the first floor C2 and C3 outside of The Plaza pool area, the airconditioned Study Rooms are quiet spaces dedicated to individual and group studying. The rooms contain several tables with chairs and are open 24 hours.

The computer/study labs are provided for your convenience and pleasure. Keeping the labs safe and secure is in part your responsibility. Report any mischievous, unusual, or suspicious behavior/individuals, to the Resident Services Office, the RA on duty, or the Campus Police, immediately. Do not prop lab doors open as this invites unwanted guests and compromises the safety and security of all who use the labs and of the lab equipment itself. Do not grant entry into labs of suspicious individuals or individuals who do not have the proper key to grant themselves entry as this, too, compromises the safety and security of those who use the labs and of the lab equipment (see use policies under UCR Housing Conduct Code).

All study rooms and labs are air-conditioned and are designated "NO SMOKING" areas. If you encounter difficulties with lab equipment or programs, please submit a help request from the lab computers at: http://resnet.ucr.edu/help.

INSURANCE

The University does not assume responsibility for personal items lost, mislaid, or stolen in Housing facilities. Unfortunately, community living has the potential for providing irresistible temptation to some residents and non-residents. We strongly urge you to help prevent the possible loss of property by keeping your door locked and windows closed whenever your room is unoccupied. We will provide you with a resource for personal property insurance policy that you may purchase if your personal items are not covered by your parents' homeowner policy.

LAUNDRY FACILITIES

Residents of Bannockburn Village & Plaza have access to three (3) laundry facilities:

BANNOCKBURN VILLAGE

  • Located on the ground floor at the west end of G building

Laundry Too:

  • Open 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. daily

All laundry facilities are outfitted with washers, dryers, sinks, and counter tops for folding clothes and organizing laundry. All washers and dryers are operated by using your UCR Card, not coins. Please see the section entitled "Cash Value Center" for information on where and how to add cash value to your UCR Card. Currently, the price of one wash cycle is $1.00 and one dry cycle is $0.60.

All laundry facilities are designated as "NO SMOKING" areas.

To help ensure the safety of your personal belongings and to be courteous to fellow residents, always promptly remove laundry as washing (approximately 30 minutes) and drying cycles (approximately 40 minutes) are completed. Be aware of laundry room closing hours, as well. Housing staff will not re-open closed facilities in order for residents to retrieve items left in the laundry rooms after closing hours. Do not prop laundry facility doors open as this can allow entry of unauthorized individuals.  Housing is not responsible for articles that are lost or stolen during use of any laundry facility.

If a washer or dryer malfunctions or if you feel that the UCR Card reader for a laundry facility is not functioning properly, please notify the Resident Services Office or the RA on duty, immediately.

All resident mailboxes for Bannockburn Village & Plaza are numerically arranged in the Bannockburn Village mailroom, North of the Resident Services Office (K101) or in The Plaza mailroom South of the RSO. The mailroom is a secure, "No-Smoking" area.

U.S. Mail is picked up and delivered once a day, Monday to Saturday, except for nationally-recognized Holidays. Housing staff actually sorts all mail and aims to complete this task by 4:00 p.m. each day. However, quantities of mail vary greatly from day-to-day so we ask in advance for your patience.

A notification slip will be placed in the mailbox of residents who receive oversized or special delivery packages through the U.S. Mail, UPS, or other mail carriers. Please bring the notification slip and I.D. to the Resident Services Office in order to claim your package. All residents must sign a log when they pick up their packages.

All mail should be addressed to you in the following manner in order to avoid confusion and delays in processing your mail.

It will be important for you to begin to update your address with senders as soon as possible. We regret that we cannot forward mail to international addresses.

Housing updates residents concerning events, policies, etc. by placing notices and flyers in resident mailboxes. It is extremely important that residents check their mailboxes daily in order to ensure that they receive information in a timely manner. Housing cannot be responsible for inconveniences that arise when notices are not promptly removed from resident mailboxes.
