Keys/Door Locks

Each Bannockburn Village & Plaza resident will be issued a total of three (3) keys: one deadbolt key for the entrance to their apartment, one Common Key, and one mailbox key. Only one "set" of keys will be issued for each contracted resident. Plaza residents receive a gate card when they pick up their keys or parking permit.

The deadbolt key for your apartment entrance will be issued to you on your contracted move-in date upon verification of payment of your first month’s rent at the Resident Services Office.

Your Common Key and mailbox key will be issued to you upon completion of your Move-In Inspection. Upon move-in, residents are asked to complete their Move-In Inspection within five (5) days. As a resident of Bannockburn Village & Plaza, you are entitled to use the facilities at both Bannockburn Village or The Plaza. Your Common Key will allow you access to the following areas at each complex (Consult the map at the back of this handbook for the exact location of these facilities):

  • Study/Meeting Rooms
  • Laundry Shoot and Laundry Too
  • Study/Computer Lab
  • Pool Area
  • Bannockburn or Plaza Mailroom

THE PLAZA

  • Laundry Room
  • Recreation/T.V. Room
  • Study Room
  • Study (Computer) Lab
  • Pool/Spa Area

Your apartment door is equipped with a deadbolt in order to help ensure your security and peace of mind. Upon move-in, your apartment entry door should close without undue force and the deadbolt should perform likewise. If there is a discrepancy in either of these areas, please submit a Work Order at the Resident Services Office immediately. Always lock your door when you depart regardless of the length of time that you intend to be gone. Always carry your keys with you in order to avoid such accidents as lock-outs.

Please report lost keys to the Resident Services Office or RA after hours immediately. If you have misplaced your key(s) or locked yourself out of your apartment, a loaner key may be issued to you upon personal identification for a maximum period of 24 hours. After 24 hours, Housing must necessarily assume the missing key(s) is lost and that the security of your apartment has been jeopardized---NO EXCEPTIONS. The resident will be responsible for the cost to replace keys and/or deadbolts, as required. Key charges are assessed as follows:


Replacement of deadbolt key ................................................................$40.00

Replacement of lock.............................................................................$40.00

Replacement of Common key................................................................$25.00

Replacement of mailbox key and/or lock.................................................$25.00

Replacement of Plaza Gate Card............................................................$30.00


Roommates will receive new keys without a charge. "Repeated" lock-outs (i.e. more than 3 per quarter) will result in a $5.00 charge for each additional lock-out during the quarter and possible disciplinary action.

Residents are not permitted to install additional locking and/or security devices (e.g. slidebolts, chain locks, audible or inaudible alarms, etc.) of any type on apartment entry doors or bedroom doors. These devices prevent access by Housing staff in the event of an emergency, as well as often serving to give a false sense of security. If unauthorized locking and/or security devices are discovered in an apartment at any time during residency, residents will be notified of the immediate intent of our staff to take corrective measures at the expense of the resident (i.e. labor and materials).

Please avoid propping Bannockburn Village & Plaza facility doors such as study labs, laundry rooms, pool areas, and Common Kitchens open with rocks, self-installed doorstops, or other items. This serves to compromise the security of the facility (i.e. makes the complex more susceptible to crimes of vandalism and theft), as well as the safety of other residents.
